The SP Series Split-Core Current Transformer (CT) is a hinged, clip-on current transformer designed for non-invasive electrical current measurement on existing live conductors. Unlike conventional solid-core current transformers that require a cable to be disconnected and passed through the transformer before installation, the SP Series features a split-core hinged design that opens and closes around an existing conductor, allowing current measurement without disconnecting the circuit or interrupting power.

Designed for retrofit metering, energy monitoring, power measurement and electrical monitoring applications, the SP Series provides a practical solution when shutting down equipment or rewiring an existing electrical installation is not desirable or possible.

The split-core CT produces a proportional secondary current signal that can be connected to compatible power meters, energy meters, power quality analysers, data loggers, monitoring systems and electrical measurement equipment. This allows existing electrical infrastructure to be instrumented without extensive modification to the installation.

A range of window sizes, current ratings and transformation ratios is available across the SP Series, allowing the appropriate CT to be selected for different conductors and electrical loads. Smaller window configurations can accommodate individual cables and smaller conductors, while larger versions can be used around larger conductors and busbars.

The hinged clip-on construction makes the SP Series particularly useful for temporary measurements, retrofit installations, commissioning, electrical surveys and permanent sub-metering. Once installed around the conductor, the CT can remain in place while the monitored equipment continues operating.

The SP Series is suitable for measuring current on single-phase and three-phase electrical systems, depending on the selected CT configuration and connected measurement equipment. It can be installed on electrical panels, distribution boards, switchboards, machinery circuits, HVAC systems, generators, solar installations, EV charging circuits, production equipment and other electrical loads.

For energy management applications, split-core CTs can be paired with energy meters to provide circuit-level or equipment-level energy monitoring. Multiple CTs can be installed across different circuits to measure individual loads and determine how electrical consumption is distributed throughout a building or facility.

The non-disconnection design also makes the SP Series valuable for temporary energy audits and troubleshooting. Engineers and electricians can install the CT around an existing conductor, collect measurements for a defined period and remove the equipment afterwards without permanently modifying the electrical installation.

Important: Current transformers must be selected, installed and operated correctly for the intended electrical system. The CT secondary should be handled according to the manufacturer's requirements, particularly while the primary conductor is energized.
