3Wire FBTU2X is a cost-effective wall mounted ultrasonic flow meter for long-term flow measurement and optional BTU / heat energy measurement. It is suitable for water, cooling water, chilled water, reclaimed water, potable water, chemicals, sewage, river water, plant effluent, ultra-pure liquids and other compatible liquids.

The FBTU2X supports clamp-on, insertion and pipe-section measurement arrangements. With optional Pt100 temperature transducers, it can measure supply and return pipe temperature to calculate heat / energy usage for chilled water, hot water, HVAC and process utility applications.

Product Overview

FBTU2X is designed for applications that require reliable long-term flow monitoring without unnecessary pressure loss or excessive mechanical modification. For many applications, clamp-on transducers allow measurement to be done from outside the pipe, avoiding pipe cutting and process interruption.

Where higher stability or permanent installation is required, insertion and pipe-section transducers are available. The product can also be configured for heat / energy measurement by using suitable temperature transducers on the supply and return pipes.

Measurement Options

The datasheet measuring diagram shows three installation methods: clamp-on, insertion and pipe-section. Each method supports both flow measurement and heat measurement, depending on transducer and temperature sensor selection.

Measurement Method Description Best Use
Clamp-On Transducers are mounted outside the pipe. No pipe cutting and no pressure loss. Retrofit flow / BTU measurement, chilled water systems, temporary testing and non-invasive monitoring.
Insertion Insertion transducers are installed into the pipe. Stable and reliable for long-term operation. Permanent flow monitoring where higher installation stability is required.
Pipe-Section Pipe-type flow body is installed by cutting the pipe. Offers high accuracy and stability. New installations or critical permanent measurement points requiring dedicated flow section.
Heat / BTU Measurement Flow measurement combined with Pt100 temperature transducers on supply and return pipes. Chilled water, hot water, HVAC, district cooling, boiler and process utility energy measurement.

Supported Liquid Applications

FBTU2X can measure many liquids that can transmit ultrasonic sound waves. This includes clean liquids and selected process liquids, subject to site condition and transducer selection.

Potable water, chilled water, hot water, city water, cooling water and reclaimed water.

Wastewater and Effluent

Raw sewage, plant effluent and selected wastewater applications with suitable conditions.

Chemicals and Process Liquids

Chemicals, alcohol, beverage, sea water, oil-based liquids and selected process fluids.

Application note: Ultrasonic transit-time measurement requires the liquid to transmit sound. Very high bubbles, heavy solids, severe turbulence or unsuitable pipe condition may affect performance.
